City-wide garage sales this weekend (2024)

SHERBURN — There will be a Lunch & Learn program beginning 11 a.m. today, June 5, at the Sherburn Senior Center near the city hall building followed by a light lunch of meatballs, scalloped potatoes and rhubarb dessert. The program will be about the unsolved murder of Joann Bontjes from Martin County by St. James Police Chief Don Mickelson. These Lunch & Learn programs are available for free to anyone in Martin County. A free will donation is appreciated for the lunch.

The Sherburn Legion will have its ‘Hamburger Night’ from 6-8 p.m. tonight, June 5,and will serve a burger, salad and baked beans. Sherburn Legion will have their Steak Fry Night from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, June 8, at the Sherburn Legion Hall. Chose from ribeye, shrimp or smoked pork chop and add salad bar and baked potato. Also, the Sherburn Legion and Auxiliary will meet 7 p.m. Tuesday,

June 11, at the legion hall. All members are urged to attend.

The Regional Worship Center will have a meal at 5:30 p.m. tonight, June 5, then Bible classes for all ages. The RWC will participate in the city-wide garage sale days on Friday, June 7 and Saturday, June 8, to raise funds for the church youth group. There will also be an American Red Cross blood drive from 1-6 p.m. Monday, June 10, at the Regional Worship Center. Sounds like a busy group.

Tuesday coffee hours in June continue from 8:30-10 a.m. June 11, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn. Join friends and neighbors for good fellowship.

City-wide garage sales in Sherburn are being held this weekend, June 7 and 8. Listings are available at Kum & Go, Casey’s and Bank Midwest. Thanks to the Civic and Commerce Club.

Trimont Farmer’s Market is also being held 2-5:30 p.m. Friday, June 7, at Anderson Park in Trimont. They plan to hold the farmer’s market each Friday until September. For more information call Karin Carlson or Kris Fuller. Note: Watch for Highway 4 construction detour signs.

Condolences to the family of Matthew Zehms, formerly of Sherburn, who passed away recently. He will be missed by family and friends.

The Sherburn Theatre will feature ‘Garfield the Movie’ this weekend, June 7-9. Show times will be 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 4 p.m. on Sunday. Next week they hope to have the movie ‘Inside Out 2’ as their feature.

The Sherburn Library will have storytimes every Thursday at 3:30 p.m. during June and July. They will also have a Boredom Buster at 2:30 p.m. every Tuesday beginning June 11 and running through July. Check out the great books and other items at the Sherburn Library. It has been proved that reading during the summer months helps children retain the skills they learned at school. There are quite a few camps and theatre experiences, sports, and lessons like guitar playing available to area children through the MCW Community Education and Recreation. Check out the opportunities by reviewing the school newsletter or going to the school district website at www.martin.k12.mn.us for information.

Adults may consider being a part of the team of stakeholders to assist with design plans for the new school building. The Core Planning Committee will be made up of 25-30 people who represent the school district which will include students, staff, parents, administration, school board and community members. Application for the committee will close Friday, June 7. For assistance, call

Children of all ages in the area are also encouraged to learn bike safety tips through the Bike Rodeo which will be on Sunday, June 9, at three locations. First at 9 a.m. at Sherburn High School, 12 p.m. (noon) at Welcome Fire Hall and 3 p.m. at elementary school in Trimont. Parents will sign a waiver and remain with their child/(children). The children should bring a bike, helmet and closed toe

shoes. They will learn signals, navigate cones, use bike safety tips, learn helmet use and have fun. Thank you to the Sherburn/Welcome Police Department and the Trimont Police Department for making this important opportunity for skills lessons available.
